2017 Evening of Excellence

We are thrilled to announce that our project at Allegheny Country Club won the 2016 MBA Best in Craftsmanship Award!

We want to thank Justin Kolanz, John Means, and Bill Paul from Allegheny Country Club, as well as Dave Urbansky and Jim Wallis from Perspectus Architecture for your patience and design ideas throughout construction. Of course, the project could never have been successful without Superintendent Emory Lukacs and Project Manager Andrew Marsic, both of whom displayed extraordinary dedication and perseverance throughout the renovations. It felt like every day presented a new challenge for the team, but it was handled efficiently and professionally. A special thank you to Wayne Crouse, Renick Brothers, and Sargent Electric for going above and beyond, always willing to lend a hand and offer their own ideas to make the construction process more efficient. Our team really made this a personal effort, which truly made it a success.

2016 MBA Awards

We would like to announce that our renovation project at Allegheny Country Club is a finalist for the MBA Best in Craftsmanship Award! The basement level in the main clubhouse was demolished and transformed into a new fitness area, Pro Shop, golf bag storage/repair area, and wine cellar/tasting room. A new staircase that matches the existing stairs was installed from the first floor receptionist area to the the basement level. Extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades, replacements, and relocations were also included.  The project was designed to modernize the club while maintaining the original 1902 design, and extra attention focused on the finishes matching the existing club as closely as possible. In doing so, the transformation of the space is truly remarkable and flows with the original designs beautifully.

The awards will be presented at the MBA Evening of Excellence on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Heinz Field. This is one of the most anticipated nights in the industry, a great way to celebrate  the hard work we all do throughout the year.

Passavant Hospital Foundation Scrub Run

Throughout the past year, Landau Building Company is proud to have worked closely with and supported the Passavant Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to develop new hospital services and facilities at UPMC Passavant in McCandless and Cranberry townships as well as to provide health education and programming for the community. We worked with the Foundation for our annual Customer Appreciation Shoot in 2015 and 2016, with all proceeds benefiting the organization, and they are truly hardworking, wonderful individuals. Back in August, the Foundation hosted a 4K/8K Scrub Run/Walk at North Park. Landau sponsored two water tables for the runners and walkers, and some of our employees participated in the event. It was a great time for us and for the community!

2016 LBC Customer Appreciation Shoot

On Friduntitled-10ay, September 23rd, Landau held its 12th annual Customer Appreciation Shoot at Millvale Sportsman Club. All of the proceeds from the donations, silent auction, raffle tickets, and 50/50 benefited the Passavant Hospital Foundation. We seem to be blessed with beautiful weather every year (knock on wood!), with clear skies and warm sunshine for our guests. Check out more pictures on our Facebook page. Waterfall Catering from the Carpenters Training Center provided a delicious Oktoberfest buffet lunch, including a Bavarian bratwurst bar, wienerschnitzel, potato pancakes, and warm pretzel basket with dipping mustard. Every year our guests can enter in a friendly competition, and this year’s winners are: First Place: Scott Hazlett from DRS Architects, Second Place: Bill Paul of Deckman Company, Third Place: Fritz Baehr, F.J. Meeting the President

Golf is a favorite outing among various leaders and professionals, a way to relax, have fun, and network.  Landau superintendent Emory Lukacs was finishing up the last touches on renovations to the fitness and Pro Shop at Allegheny Country Club when none other than former President George W. Bush arrived for a day of golf!  That’s right, the former president of the United States visited the historic country club – and therefore our job site!

Crane at St. Margaret Hospital

generator fixedConstruction at St. Margaret Hospital, located on Freeport Road, is progressing quickly!  Landau was hired for the Emergency Generator #1 Installation Project, which should be finished next month.  A crane was needed onsite to lift the generator and supporting equipment to the roof and to the wall opening for installation. It can be a long process, especially with the rainstorm that hit the second day, but our team didn’t let their spirits drop or their work suffer.  Superintendent Jeff Bono couldn’t say enough how proud he is of all the workers on the job and that the work ethic of his men is outstanding.  Great job, guys!

Point Park University New Media Center

Landau Building Company was awarded Point Park University’s Center for Media Innovation, located on the corner of Wood Street and Third Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.  This 4,000 SF center will include television and broadcast studios, a multimedia newsroom, a photo studio, transformation presentation space, and gallery space.  The center will have floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a digital ticker reminiscent of a New York City-style media hub.  Pittsburgh-based GBBN Architects are the designers.

The students of the School of Communications will be offered hands-on experience and collaboration with professors. They will also have the opportunity to work with industry professionals to become leaders in media innovation.

The new center is made possible in part by a grant from the Allegheny Foundation and sponsored by Trib Total Media.  Richard Scaife, late owner of Trib Total Media, was committed to journalism’s role in society and wanted to find a way to build journalism through education, according to Matt Groll, who succeeded Scaife’s place as chairman of the Allegheny Foundation.  To read Point Park University’s press release, click here.  Anticipated completion is set for June 2016.
