2012 MBA Building Excellence Award – Best Renovation Under $10 Million
As an academic institution, RMU hoped to open the Wheatley Center before the fall 2012 semester. Landau Building Company and the design team created a ten-month construction schedule, but the original schedule projected Phase II completion in January 2013. Through collaboration, good communication, and teamwork, both Phase I and Phase II were completed in August 2012. The Wheatley Center was formerly a U-shaped building. The design for the new facility required Landau Building Company to remove the bottom portion of the “U” and construct a three-story, 33,000 SF infill structure between the existing wings. These existing wings were structurally connected to the new building and received complete interior renovations. The combined new facility is approximately 53,000 SF.
“Landau’s challenge was to achieve our cost and schedule goals – and they exceeded our expectations.”
Bill Joyce, RMU Director of Planning and Design
